Never tell me the odds

Never tell me the odds

There may be a rapid fire of posts in the near future, as I go through my Google Photos and find old projects. I’ll start with this quick one.

HP G62 – Windows 11

My main personal laptop, lives on my desk and alternates with my work laptop. It is a wonderful MSI GS75 Stealth, that does everything I ask of it. The one above though, is not that laptop.

This laptop, is an HP G62 that I inherited, or rather, was told that it was trash. I spent some time with it, gave it some attention and much needed upgrades to breathe life back into it.

An Intel I7 620M, 8GB of ram, and a 240GB SSD. Compared to the stock Intel I3 350M, 4GB of ram, and an old school 320GB HDD it was fantastic. I distrohopped with it for a while, before deciding to take it to work to use as a dedicated… music… machine! And it did all the simple tasks well enough. However…

My main laptop upgraded to Windows 11. I got used to it fairly well, but it made me wonder why this HP never asked me to update, or tried to do it on it’s own. Well, that’s because Microsoft decided that this laptop, even with it’s beefed up specs, could not run Windows 11!

So I started researching how to force it. I read a lot about not having updates and how everyone kind of just hated Windows 11. I just wanted to see if it could be done. Now, this was a few weeks ago, but I remember that the easy methods didn’t work. Deleting a file, performing a registry edit, nothing worked. I remember finding a script, I believe it was this one but I’m not sure.

UPDATE: It was this one.

I know I had to download a Windows 11 ISO and put it into the folder, and run a BAT script. Next thing I knew, it was performing an in place upgrade, and this time it didn’t complain!

So now, some time has passed and I have felt the itch to wipe this laptop, and that may happen soon. But, for now, it is an HP G62 running Windows 11.
